Video: L'Orange - "The End" ft. Billy Woods

As the latest single from the album "The Orchid Days", producer L'Orange and emcee Billy Woods recently dropped the visuals for the track "The End". Incorporating some ghostly effects to compliment the off-kilter and more experimental track, the video shows shadowy figures stomping the streets of Brooklyn with a goon squad looking for "you".

Fine Art Friday: Ralph Eugene Meatyard

I rarely get to pay homage to my Kentucky roots with music or art, as most of the output from the region is pretty dreadful, but once in a while, I am reminded that some of the best work I come across, is from less celebrated people and areas of the world. On that note, I wanted to post the work of  Ralph Eugene Meatyard, a Kentucky photographer who documented his own family from the 1950s until the 70s, by creating a series of photographs titled “The Family Album of Lucybelle Crater”. He created the work by getting his wife and kids to wear distorted rubber masks and oversize body parts in the role of  the "Lucybelle Crater" family, a deep study into the proverbial masks of identity that we all wear, which end up looking like refugee members of the Texas Chainsaw family. The photos are both comical and strange, but well executed and seem to tap into the unsettling feeling that most epople have about country, mountain folk. A thorough book was published of the Crater images in 1974, by the Jargon Society, but is rare to come across these days. Check out some of the pics below!

Listen: Stan Forebee - "Life's Perspective" Album

Berlin producer, Stan Forebee recently debuted his jazzy, instrumental album entitled, "Jazz Sessions" from Digi Crates records. Coming from the lane of cats like Nujabes, Pete Rock, Madlib and many others, Forebee mixes hazy samples and mellow tempos with grace and provides a solid debut for folks who like to zone out to mellow hip hop production. Hopefully, this will be one of many to come in the years ahead, but for now, vibe out with the German import and learn how to calm down.

Listen: CunninLynguists - "Strange Journey: Volume Three"

Strange Journey Volume Three is a unique project from the CunninLynguists , as it is the phenomenal results of a year long experiment with the fans of the group. The legendary Kentucky hip hop crew was not happy simply "crowd-funding" a release via Kickstarter like so many other artists, so Deacon The Villain, Natti and Kno asked their fans for no money -- instead they spent a year interacting with fans via social media and allowing them to vote on guest artists, suggest song concepts, letting them peek in on studio sessions and make decisions on album artwork. The results are the quality "Strange Journey Volume Three", featuring the efforts of Murs, Del The Funky Homosapien, Aesop Rock, Grieves, Celph Titled, Zumbi of Zion I, Tonedeff and many more. The mostly mellow project contains humor, stories of lost love, and living life and I find myself rocking the album on repeat. Perhaps this should be the template for future albums from other groups, but the CL squad benefited greatly from trying something new.
