Fine Art Friday: Eric Haze

Eric Haze is a legend in the graffiti world and the graphic design world for his iconic tag and hand style but also for Hip Hop fans from the early 80's, when he created timeless logo's for groups like EPMD, LL Cool J, and Tommy Boy records. Haze has steadily built a career from mixing his style with commercial work and recently teamed up with Nike to create the apparel dedication "Dream Team Destroyer" to the legendary 1992 USA Olympic basketball team. Check out the video below for some insight into his inspiration for the project and some of the notable logos and artwork he is known for after the jump:

Video: Brother Ali X Jake One - Mourning in America

Just in time for an election year, or re-election year if you support Obama, Brother Ali teams up with Jake One for an album worth of reminders about the ills of the world around you. Brother Ali's latest album "Mourning In America and Dreaming in Color" is due out 9/18/2012 and if you are in need of filling your brain with messages of uplifting and self empowerment, concerns about poverty, hardship, prison overcrowding, neglected neighborhoods and more honest and "real" lyrics abut the state of the world, then you should pick it up when it drops. Help support quality music by a great MC and a great producer AND a great independent record label.

The video above is one of the lead singles from the album. Check it out to scare your inner-illuminati!

Video: The Coup - The Magic Clap

It has been a long time since The Coup have put out some new music, but Boots and Pam just introduced this video and single from the upcoming "Sorry to Bother You" album, due out on Oct. 30. If you are a fan of Aquemini-era Outkast or the Gnarls Barkley sound, even though The Coup came way before those groups, then you should like the mix of political content and funk that The Coup always brings to the table.

Check out more music from The Coup, donate to the Kickstarter campaign to help get a tour bus and pre-order the new album at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1909248105/a-tour-bus-for-the-coup

Video: Rapsody - Kind of Love ft. Nomsa Mozwai

Lately, I have been hyping Rapsody's recent album The Idea of Beautiful like a true Stan, but I am so impressed with the content of her work and the honest lyrics that I will go to bat for her over any female MC, or male as of late. Here is the latest video for her track "Kind of Love" (Produced by 9th Wonder) that I like to call the "Feel Good Anthem of the Year".

Check it out above and get the album on Itunes here http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-idea-of-beautiful/id553914175

Interview: DJ Jazzy Jeff: Crate Diggers Unite!

Continuing the insightful interviews with world famous DJ's and vinyl collectors, Crate Diggers and Fuse TV sat down with DJ Jazzy Jeff to discuss his record collection, how he got into music, and some of the obsessive behaviors that all crate diggers experience when researching vinyl archives. Many people may only know Jeff as the other half of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (Will Smith), but his legacy in music production and DJ'ing stands alone as solid work without the Hollywood fame of his partner in crime. Check out the interview above and other interviews with notable crate diggers like Pete Rock, and the Beat Junkies crew, among others.
