Video: Oh No - "Punchdrunkpatterns" ft. MidaZ The Beast

Stones Throw alumni (and Madlib's brother) Oh No recently dropped a video with MidaZ The Beast for the track "Punkdrunkpatterns" from Oh No's "Disrupted Ad's" album. Supported by Fat Beats, this track shows quality beats dedicated to sampling and a fun approach to collaboration that Oh No seems to have on every project. Check it out and support quality music!

Fine Art Friday: Omer Fast

My friend and artist Michael Kellner put me on to this video project my noted artist Omer Fast. He has a range of project, but this specific video project entitled "5000 Feet is the Best" sparked my interest due to the recent phenonemon of using drones in supposed combat situations.

"The video is based on two meetings with a Predator drone operator which were recorded in a hotel in Las Vegas in September 2010. On camera, the drone operator agreed to discuss the technical aspects of his job and his daily routine. Off camera and off the record, he briefly described recurring incidents in which the unmanned plane fired at both militants and civilians - and the psychological difficulties he experienced as a result - before breaking the interview off. Instead of looking for the appropriate news accounts or documentary footage to augment his redacted story, the video is deliberately miscast and misplaced: it follows an actor cast as the drone operator who grudgingly sits for an interview in a dark hotel. The interview is repeatedly interrupted by the actor's digressions, which take the viewer on meandering trips around Las Vegas. Told in quick flashbacks, the stories form a circular plot that nevertheless returns fitfully to the voice and blurred face of the drone pilot - and to his unfinished story." ---OMER FAST

Video: Pacewon X Mr. Green - "Something To Say"

Boom bap enthusiasts and true school alumni crew Pacewon and Mr. Green recently dropped a new video for the "Something to Say" track from The Only Number That Matters is Won 1.5. Ill beats and Pacewon's tough talk make for a great combo and they consistently put out underground heatrocks for the hip hop faithful.

Video: Torae X 9th Wonder - "Steady Mobbin"

Torae recently linked with beatmaster 9th Wonder for the single "Steady Mobbin" and the results are the kind of new school, boom bap you'd expect from 9th coupled with tough talk about "fakes" in the industry. The track has a gospel-ish sample and anthemic quality that Torae sounds great over, so listen up and support quality music. Sometimes, it just takes some research!

Video: Propaganda - "Redefined Cutter"

Any time I see an artist take delta blues and give it a modern spin, I admire the creativity that much more. Mississippi emcee Propaganda did exactly that to pay homage to his roots and tell his family history over a gritty, blues riff. As part of the Humble Beast roster, he helps keep their positive vision of the world alive and showcases his mantra on this track. All Humble Beast digital albums are free, but check out the other work from Prop and his crew and support it when you can.

Listen: DiVance Walker - "Rocks On Pavement"

DiVance Walker appears to be just starting out on his road to success, but from this single and previous releases, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and doesn't choose to follow the mainstream sound of current rap radio. His most recent release "Rocks On Pavement" borrows an old RJD2 track as the soundtrack for his personal stories of life's struggles. Hopefully, the future will bring more attention to the hip hop underdogs out there, so check it out and support quality music.
